Keep Calm and Carry On – An Act from God

So your big day is coming!  Your venue is booked, the tables are set, your guests are all ready to party and most important of all, you are happy because everything is going according to plan!

Nothing can go wrong………………….oh hold on this is a “Keep Calm and Carry On” article, something has to go wrong so what is it this time?

The weather!

Love it or hate it, it is always there waiting to make or break your day and this is especially true for your big day since dark and brooding rain clouds are not a good sign for a outdoor wedding.

Stormy skies - overall

Unless you are planning on a Halloween themed wedding then a mild thunderstorm might actually add atmosphere to your spooky proceedings.

So what happens if the weather becomes your enemy?

What if you experience a freak thunderstorm in the middle of what is suppose to be summer?  Well do not panic!  Most of the time these thunderstorms do not last long and once it is all over, your big day can carry on as planned if a bit delayed.  If it doesn’t stop raining then first point of call would be to contact the person who is performing your marriage rites.  In the end of the day, he or she will be the one who decides if the wedding is going ahead and if they say no, it is still not the end of the world.  Your reception can still go ahead even though you are not married.  Just think of it as a pre-wedding reception!  Although you will want to start rounding up as many umbrellas and wellington boots that you can find for your guests.

Then again, it could be the mother of all thunderstorms!  You know the ones where lives are at stake.  Well if that is the case then quite frankly forget about your wedding and head for safety.

Only when the drama is all over, you should start thinking about sorting out your wedding and I do have a sneaky suspicion that you will get a lot of sympathy from everyone involved.  Just speak to all parties concerned and it is likely that they will help you make your big day come true once again.

But what are the chances of experiencing such bad weather that it could endanger lives.  Highly unlikely I think so don’t worry about that scenario.

Most of the time the weather will be fine.  Just think about all the wedding you have ever been to or heard about and did one of those get ruined by bad weather?  I bet all of them turned out just fine.

So the moral of the story today is weather is highly unlikely to ruin your day but if it does then keep calm and make the best of a bad situation.

Keep Calm And Carry On – Cake Wreck!

So you may have spent hours or just a few minutes looking at what type and style of cake you want for your day.  You may have opted for a huge three tier showstopper or maybe a table laden with delectable cupcakes all beautiful decorated.

wedding cake

No matter what you have ordered you have expectations so imagine your horror when you see your cake for the first time and it is a monstrosity!

It is lopsided, the decoration can only be described as something that children produce with pots of paints and fingers and it is something that resemble the twin of Jubba the Hutt.

In fact you can see plenty of example on

What do you do?  Well reframe from doing anything rash like grabbing the cake maker and strangling them.  It is tempting but non productive. Not to mention illegal.

Understandable you should be upset and rightly so because the cake is rubbish.  However why not Keep Calm and just laugh it off!  In the end of the day, the cake will be cut up and eaten by your guests so it doesn’t matter if the cake looks bad.

Of course it will mean you have some “interesting” cake cutting photos but at least you will have a good reason to destroy it.

In fact why not turn the ugly cake into an entertaining piece for the guest!  Grab some cake decorating supplies and put them next to your cake and ask your guest to add their artistic flair to it.  They can not make it worse so why not have fun.  In fact you can make it into a competition and afterwards you will have a truly unique cake decorated by your friends and family.

Alternatively if you have the time then you could try to find replacements.  It will probably be impossible to find a cake of similar size and style at such short notice but you could probably find some nice alternatives but make sure you buy enough cake for everyone.  If you do not have any money left in your budget to replace the cake how about asking your guests to bring one along!  Yes it is very cheeky but I can not imagine anyone will be upset by your request and the plus side of this would be the varied cake selection you will get.

Remember your wedding day is a day of happiness and joy so do not let a cake ruin it.
